No doubt the Airship Genesis crew—and all of Rocket Cove—are relieved to finally put an end to Irrwin’s shenanigans. And now that he has the Bible fully uploaded in his memory banks, he can truly understand and value God’s Word. What about you?

These past five weeks you have learned that the Word of God is:

a light that gives life and direction,

a mirror that reflects who God is and shows you who you really are,

a powerful sword that can fight off all enemies, and

living bread that will feed your soul and keep you satisfied.

Surprisingly, we have only scratched the surface of all the awesome and wonderful ways that God’s Word can make our lives amazing and full of joy!

But knowing just what you’ve learned in these lessons, how can you NOT believe that the Word of God is valuable? That’s really what the author of Psalm 119 meant when he said in verse 127, “Therefore I love Your commandments more than gold, yes than fine gold!” In verse 72 he also says that God’s law is better than “thousands of coins of gold and silver.” So what God wants us to know is that His Word brings us valuable rewards. It’s so valuable that it is worth more than not just gold, or fine gold (that’s the best kind of gold), but more than any amount of riches. In other words:

No amount of riches in the whole world can compare to the rewards found in God’s Word!

Sometimes we obey our parents or God’s Word to avoid being punished. But did you know that when you obey God you receive great rewards? Psalm 119 shows us just a few of the rewards that belong to those of us who obediently follow God’s Word.

Happiness:

Everyone wants to be happy, right? The Bible’s word for that is “blessed” (verses 1-2). The thing is, in order to be happy (blessed), you can’t just read the Word of God; you have to OBEY it and let it guide you to make good choices. Would you obey God in exchange for the reward of happiness?

Righteousness:

Do you want to be more like Jesus? God is righteous. That means He is always right, NEVER wrong. Everything God says and does is absolutely good and right. And because the Bible is God’s Word, every word of the Bible is good and right—all the time (Psalm 119:138).

But can we really be righteous?

When you ask Jesus to be your Savior, God’s Word tells us that when God looks at you, He sees the righteousness of Jesus covering you like a big robe. Isn’t that stupendous?

Unfortunately, here on earth we will still do things that are wrong and bad. The good news is that God’s Word can help us avoid sin—IF we listen. Now that’s a huge reward!

Truth:

As you grow up, you will learn that lots of people say things that aren’t true. They don’t think they are lying, they just don’t know that they are wrong. This makes it hard sometimes to know what is really true. Thankfully, we don’t have to worry about that with God’s Word. Every word is the absolute truth because it comes straight from God, who knows everything and cannot lie! (Psalm 119:42, 51, 60) The fact that we never have to question whether God is telling us the truth is a HUGE reward.

Strength:

Do you ever feel weak? Not puny-muscle weak, but weak because of sadness or frustration—weak because you feel powerless in bad times? God’s Word will give you STRENGTH. Verse 28 says, “My soul melts from heaviness; strengthen me according to Your word.” God is our strength. Just like working out with weights brings the reward of strong muscles, knowing God’s Word will make you strong on the inside—so strong that you can bear the weight of any hard time. What a reward!

Salvation:

God’s Word has the power to save you and give you eternal life. It also has the power to save you in this life whenever you are in trouble.

“Let Your mercies come also to me, O LORD—Your salvation according to Your word” (verse 41). The greatest reward found in the Bible is the gift of eternal life and the confidence that we can run to God and He will always help us.

Hope:

We all need hope. Most people think of hoping as something they wish for in the future—as in, “I hope I get an Xbox for Christmas.” But maybe you won’t get an Xbox, right? The kind of HOPE that God’s Word offers is a for sure, certain, you-can-count-on-it 100 percent kind of hope.

For believers, it’s the certain hope that God loves us, that He will never leave us, and that He is building an eternal home for us with Him in heaven one day. “But I hope in Your word” (verse 81b).

I can’t think of a more exciting reward, can you?

This lesson could go on and on without even leaving Psalm 119! Read the chapter for yourself and you will find many more reasons why the Bible is not like any other book. It is God’s living Word. Then maybe you will “rejoice as one who finds great treasure” (Psalm 119:162). Wait—there is another reward—JOY!!

The psalmist who wrote Psalm 119 knew that the Word of God was a great treasure. That’s why he said at least seven times that he LOVED the Word of God. What about you? Do you love your Bible? If you do, shout out as loud as you can, “I LOVE MY BIBLE!” Now didn’t that feel good? Remember, if you are willing to obediently follow God’s Word, the rewards are endless.

Mission Challenge:

For five weeks we have been celebrating God’s Word. That’s exactly what Psalm 119 does. But here’s something you may not know. The chapter is written in a pattern called an acrostic. It is divided into 22 sections—one section for each letter of the Hebrew language alphabet. So the first word of each section begins with a letter from the alphabet—and the sections go in alphabetical order. Get it?

Your final Summer Adventure challenge is a big one, so get the whole family involved. Are you ready?

Even if you are very young, you know the alphabet. Write down each letter in order on a long paper banner or in a book that you make out of plain white paper or construction paper. Leave space between the letters to write and maybe draw pictures. Make sure everyone helps!

As you write the letters, think of one single word or phrase or sentence that describes something rewarding about the Bible. For example, when you get to the letter M, you might write: Memorize God’s Word to stay far from sin. Get it?

When you have finished, you will have a fantastic keepsake to remind you and your family just how special and valuable God’s Word is. When you live according to His commandments, the rewards equal more than you can count!
